U.S. Ambassador Richard Verma’s November Blog

Hi everybody. Welcome back to our November
video blog we’re taking a break from playing basketball here with our team at
the embassy who works hard and plays hard as well but it was a busy month in
November, started out in the city of Bangalore where I was pleased to take part in
the US-India aviation summit. We also met with a number of NGOs and toured around
the community as well with a particularly interesting NGO that’s
having a high impact and doing school feeding programs that we were really
pleased to go visit with them. I was also able to go to Mumbai to meet with Vice
Admiral Cheema and tour the Western Naval Command for very
significant visit to talk more about our naval cooperation and also participate
in our mega city security conference as we looked at the different challenges and
opportunities as our cities in both of our countries around the world turn into
mega cities. It was also International Education Week where we were really
excited about the numbers that were released… a hundred and thirty thousand
Indian students studying in the United States last year and we’re gonna look to
increase that number as well as increasing number of American students
studying and India. Also in November was the start of the Paris climate talks and
we’re really excited that President Obama and Prime Minister Modi not only
talked on the phone for the first time on their hotline, for the first time that
they were able to meet in Paris for a sixth time in just over a year
which was terrific as both of our countries take an important leadership
role in constructing a durable and lasting framework to combat climate
change. We also had Ambassador Power our Ambassador to the United Nations
who gave a compelling speech on peacekeeping,
the really consequential and important role that India place in peacekeeping
and of course tackle the important issues Security Council reform as well
and reaffirmed our strong commitment to ensuring that India has a seat on a
reformed UN Security Council. In Gurgaon I was very excited to link up again with
legendary film actor Amitabh Bachchan, Dr. Trehan of Medanta hospital and
Haryana Chief Minister to re-insure that people understood our commitment to
tackling TB to try to end TB in India and this time with Medanta’s mobile
vans that would go out and improve the testing of folks that maybe have already
contracted TB. I was also able to go up to Rishikesh and Dehradun for a beautiful
visit, we were able to go to Parmarth NIketan, our good partners in Clean India
WASH efforts and commemorate a new block of toilets at a girls school such
an important effort to ensure that these young girls have access to safe and
secure sanitation facilities. November ofcourse also gave us the time to spend
with our families and friends as we celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali
right here in India and in America we also celebrated Thanksgiving, two
opportunities for us to come together as a community and give thanks for all that we have
including this very strong relationship between our two countries. Continue to
follow us on social media, Facebook and Twitter thanks for your support November was a busy month but December
is shaping up to be just as busy. We’ll see you again next month
