I am the Chief Deputy and General
Counsel for the Clerk of Court for Pinellas County, Ken Burke. Clerk’s work is so legal in nature – we work with the courts, the state attorney, the public
defender. The clerk’s office has lots of opportunities for students to come
and work with us. If they would like to come and work on a full-time basis while
they’re getting their degrees they can do that and we help work around those schedules. Students that come to the clerk’s office from St. Pete College are extremely
well-prepared. They already have a lot of legal knowledge under their belt. I think SPC has given students the technological skills that they need in the workplace. Oftentimes they’ll come for maybe just an internship and now they’re working in the clerk’s office. When they come, they not only are coming to find a career, they are also serving a really good need in the community.
