Dr. Merila Atarodi: Any pediatric dentist
have their own method so little kids are sing a song. I always ask what’s their favorite song, so
we can sing a song. ABCD, The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round. They like those kinds of songs. Originally, I’m Persian, so I was born in
Tehran, and my dad is an anesthesiologist, so I was very interested in the medical field. When I was a child, I really loved going to
my pediatric dentist. I always loved brushing my teeth when I was
little, and my mom always helped me brush and floss my teeth. Oral hygiene in our family was very important. When I was in middle school, around age ten,
eleven, I wanted to be a dentist. I did my dental school in Tehran. Over there, dental school is like six years. I met my husband in dental school, and then
we both work as a general dentist, and then we moved to Rochester together, and then I
did my AGD residency at the University of Rochester New York, and then my pediatric
residency again at the University of Rochester New York. After completing my residency program, my
husband and I moved to Louisville, and I got a position full time faculty at the University
of Louisville, in the pediatric department. So, I was teaching both pediatric dental resident,
and also DMD students. I have one daughter, she’s 11 years old, yes,
and is in 5th grade. I spend time with my family and I play tennis,
I do ski. I enjoy traveling with my family.
