I’m Getting Invisalign! Fixing an Overbite & Crowded Teeth

[music] [static] Hello! This is Akemi. Today is my last day with these teeth. [car door closing] Like it says in the title, I’m getting Invisalign to fix my teeth, but I already fixed my teeth when I was a teenager! I had regular braces with metal brackets, headgear, rubber bands, retainers, the works! Over the years, my teeth have shifted a lot. It’s almost as if they want to go back in time and return to the position they were in before I had braces. [music] [thud] [car door closing] [rustling] [car door closing] So, [music] I’m fixing my teeth again at the recommendation of my dentist and orthodontist. I told both of them, “I don’t really care what I look like. I just want to do what’s best for my teeth now, so that when I get old, all my teeth don’t fall out!” The two main problems with the position of my teeth are crowding and an overbite. My gums rarely bleed when I’m flossing, but when they do, usually it’s in that one crowded part where food always gets caught. [music] As for my overbite, it’s so deep my bottom teeth are now hitting my upper palate behind my front teeth. Right now, these two things aren’t a huge issue, but down the road, they could lead to inflammation and infections. Eeesh. I chose Invisalign over regular braces mostly because of another problem I have which is tooth wear. [running water] Maybe I’m grinding my teeth during my sleep or clenching my teeth during the day or there’s just something about the way I chew. If I keep wearing them down, my teeth will be very weak and those other issues could get worse. With Invisalign, I’ll have plastic trays covering all my teeth for about 22 hours every day for the next 12 to 18 months, so right away, my teeth will get some protection under those little plastic houses and hopefully help slow down some tooth wear, a definite plus over regular braces for me. [music] [music] [wind blowing] I had been sitting on an orthodontist referral from my dentist for a while. Once I decided to just go for it, I got set up with Invisalign pretty quickly. Three weeks ago, I went to my consultation appointment with the orthodontist. We went through paperwork, photos, x-rays, discussion, payment, more x-rays, and scans. Not a terribly long appointment considering I’ve been thinking about orthodontics for more than a year. Based on the scans, my Invisalign trays have been created. Tomorrow, I’m picking them up at my orthodontist’s office. I’ll show you those and let you know what happened in another video. Invisalign will be a totally different experience than my teenage braces, but I’m excited to start something good for my long-term dental health. I’m a little worried about having to relearn how to talk. Keh keh keh. Thank you for watching this video! So, are you thinking about adjusting your teeth? Please comment, and let me know. I’d love to connect with anyone else who’s thinking about it or going through it right now. [music] If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up.
