FAQ – What are options for treating periodontal disease? | Generations Dental Care | Concord Dentist

Christina McCann: If you’ve been recommended
to have periodontal scaling and root planing or a deep cleaning, it’s important to follow
through with that treatment because it not only affects your oral health, but it affects
your overall health. In the scaling and root planing procedure,
your hygienist would remove the bacteria and the toxins from the pocket while smoothing
the root surfaces, so it’s a little bit more in-depth than a regular cleaning, and oftentimes
we can give local anesthesia, just so that the patient isn’t uncomfortable during the
procedure, and it may feel like having another cleaning at that point, but the procedure
is a little bit more in-depth.
