Dr. Scott Hornung: A dental implant is a titanium
replacement for a root of a tooth. It goes in your jaw structure. It is a surgical procedure, and the number
one question was, “Does it hurt?” It actually doesn’t hurt. It’s done relatively quickly. It takes a few months to heal. You can restore it in many different styles,
depending on whether you’re putting a denture over it or a tooth over it. Implants were made specifically for this purpose. It’s tough to talk someone who’s 75 into doing
implants, but once you have an implant underneath the denture, it holds it well. That patient is going back to eating corn
off the cob.
