Hi I am Bill Law and I am president at St.
Petersburg College. Welcome to Direct Link, a new site to offer
insights on the issues foremost in the minds of the leadership team at St. Petersburg College.
At SPC, student success is our top priority. We believe that every staff member has a role
in supporting student success. With the creation of this site, SPC faculty,
staff and students will be able to have access to the data, the discussion and the thought-processes
that go into the decision-making at the college. This site is one way to bring all of you into
the conversation. Everyone from the leadership team, to advisors,
faculty and staff at SPC have been working hard to implement the five facets of our College
Experience for Student Success: The revised New Student Orientation
My Learning Plan (Individual plans for every student)
The student coaching system, which includes the Early Alert
Our greatly extended Out of Class Support. and an Integrated Academic and Career Advising.
A new endeavor for us now, is to focus our efforts to re-vitalize our online education
program. We are also making improvements to our plan to intervene with students as soon
as they start to struggle, assisting them and devise an action plan to get back on track
at St. Pete College. This site is a way, in our busy world, to
let you hear directly from me, from Senior Vice Presidents Anne Cooper, Doug Duncan and
Tonjua Williams; and from other members of the leadership team on a variety of subjects.
We have had great success with our face-to-face listening posts, where I and other college
leaders have gone out to the campuses to personally hear student’s suggestions, comments and concerns.
This site will expand that concept. Each week, you will find a post from a member of the
leadership team, letting you know about a specific topic.
Each month, you will find a virtual listening post, where a member of the leadership team
will participate in a live online session. The topics will be wide-ranging:
How we are adjusting to the legislative-mandated changes in developmental education
How we are altering the ways we recruit and retain students
How we hope to better engage the students who are already here
How we are dealing with financial constraints. How we are adjusting our educational offerings
to meet the needs of a changing workforce and a global society.
Those issues — and how to resolve them — do not affect just the executive team. They affect
all of us. So I invite you to join us here often. Get
involved in the conversation and let your voice be heard as we all work toward a common
goal: The continued success of St. Petersburg College and our students.
