LCCC dental hygiene students are brightening their futures as they brighten your smile. The community college and the community are able to seek dental hygiene services which basically means, cleaning, x-rays, dental exam, fluorides, sealants, those kinds of things. Students work with patients from the community and are able to get some practical training. We do both treatment as well as working with our patients to help them manage whatever disease process they may have going on. The program offers inexpensive dental care and its patient pool is populated thanks to partnerships and referrals from Cheyenne Health and Wellness and Cheyenne Health Care. We do special needs and special Olympics, some of those other kinds of individuals that maybe don’t get the care or have some more time to devote to getting care. It’s a win, win because the students get experience, while you the community member get dental care for around $20. We do charge enough to cover our expenses for the materials that we use. The catch is you’ll probably be sitting in that dentist chair longer than usual, because you’re a not just a patient, you’re also an assignment that needs to be graded. It’s a very reduced cost because I always say they put in the time not the money. I’m Lisa Murphy with this Laramie County Community College Spotlight.
