Creighton University School of Dentistry Community-based geriatric dental health.

Dr. McFarland and I had a discussion one
day about the need for the school to bring on some additional training for
the students in special care in geriatrics this is a good program I can
come here and get some dental work done and hopefully you have a million-dollar
smile when I leave maybe this geriatric and special care rotations will near
what is taught throughout the four years of the curriculum number eight
classified infractions the students that are recruited or volunteering for these
rotations range anywhere from the freshman to the senior dental students
the freshmen in software do education services and prevention and the juniors
and seniors do more complex needs if you’re gonna fill it date of birth right
there the benefit is not only for the community bringing the care to them but
the benefit for the student is that they are getting exposed to a population
where they may not have had that experience in the four walls of the
dental school they’re very you know passion about the work they’re doing and
the opportunity to serve our clients and work with us to do so and so it’s just a
great partnership for us to have I really appreciate you know Creighton
University you know serving our clients and coming out and being part of what
we’re doing at the heart ministry center Where are you from? Mississippi. Mississippi? Can’t you tell
when we go out into the community we get to help people who are underserved who
might not be able to come into our facility and be seen by us because they
don’t have the means to we’d like to reduce those barriers by bringing the
education down to the undergraduate level so they are exposed at an earlier
stage in their career so that they do go back to their respective communities
I can treat these patients with confidence for us to be able to give
this opportunity to these patients I think it’s very important and we’re able
to give back to the community the relationship we have with Creighton is
very much appreciated and we kind of do the work that we do you know without
Creighton University I’ll come again. If they let me.
