>>In the Health Center tonight, a local nonprofit
is using fashion to fund everything from research to lifesaving equipment at a mid-state hospital.
A walk on the runway at Hotel Hershey is a fun fundraiser for the Association of Faculty
and Friends. The group raises money to fill the need at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.>>We fund grants for educational needs and
research needs and primarily for any aspect of the hospital, whether it’s the children’s
hospital, whether it’s the cancer institute, life line, as we are here today.>>In fact, AFF partially funded this piece
of lifesaving equipment.>>Let’s us see down into an airway when we
need to put a breathing tube in somebody emergently or fairly quickly. It gives us a much better
view than the standard. The old fashioned way was looking directly down with an instrument
and sometimes that’s pretty hard to do to get a direct view. It’s made a big improvement
in our first time getting the tube in.>>AFF has fundraisers throughout the year.
The largest is a fashion show that show raised $103,000 last year, up from 70,000 in 2012.>>We decided as a board to raise our increments
for our allowances for the grants that we can give.>>At one time, the grant max was $3,000,
now it will be $10,000 because of AFF, fundraising efforts that are appreciated.>>Any way we can get more funds to buy this
kind of lifesaving equipment is great. They’ve helped us out in the university lots of times
before.>>Now if you would like to attend the fashion
show, it’s Tuesday, April 1st but tickets are selling out quickly. You can find a link
to AFF on our website, just go to ABC27.com.
