Alternative to Dentures- What are My Options?

one of the most common ways to replace
teeth in the past was to have a denture although dentures are a way to replace teeth not many patients would actually want to have a denture for
very obvious reasons one it could be because the denture moves around a lot
when you talk or when you eat it’s hard for you to chew on because
sometimes dentures can lift and move I’ve got a story quite a while
back this there was a patient a patient of mine that went to he’s in his 60s and
he went on a cruise with his new girlfriend and his girlfriend and did
not know that he has got for himself upper and lower denture so on his first
day in his cruise he sneezed and guess what befell true story
the denture flew out and it landed in in a sea well for two weeks on a cruise
get no teeth with a new girlfriend so well I’m not sure what happened
thereafter but he came and see me after that and requested for me not to make
him another denture of course I’ve never seen him before that so this is
after his teeth has fallen in the ocean he’s coming to me for advice of what to do
besides having a denture so now besides dentures you’ve got
basically two options one you can have a fixed option where you can afford
plants for example and have a fixed teeth on the implants now it’s called
all on 4 no it’s not what do you think in dental terms what it means that
you have four implants fixed on a bridge and and it’s fixed there so basically it
functions like real teeth now the other option is to have a removable denture
but attached to the implant or two implants on on the lower jaw for example
so what it means is when you have denture actually clips in onto the
implant it’s still removable so meaning that you still take it out
before you sleep and after meals you need to take it out to give it a good rinse to put it back in but at least it’s fixed to something and when it’s fixed is
something it’s a lot more secure so when you sneeze when you talk when you laugh
it’s not gonna fall out like I’m like one my poor patients happen to him
so to summarize you’ve got three options when you don’t have any teeth left one a
full upper and lower denture which is not fixed
to anything second option would be a removable denture attached to the
implant meaning that you still can take it in and out but it’s fixed under
something and this is more secure or you can have the third option which is an
all on 4 option where it’s all fixed and you don’t move it you don’t take it
out identity take it out for you from time to time to clean it but it
functions like new teeth so hopefully you know based on these three options
you can take a pic choose what you need be sure to know your pros and cons find
a dentist who knows all the options and can do all of them so that you know
you’re best served and you’re in good hands all right
